Matthew Couper is a New Zealander who and lives and creates in Las Vegas. His artwork is reminiscent of Spanish Colonial art; showing religious iconography and symbolism reflective of this art movement from Mexico down to South America (from the 16th to early 19th century).

Brimming with social and cultural commentary, Matthew’s pop-surrealist paintings explore phenomena that is both disconcerting, bizarre, and pertinent. The concepts of his paintings are age-old ideas of – good confronted by evil; however, Couper broadens this on a more universal plane showing the struggle of man’s spiritual self, and his place in the global community.

He exhibited his powerful artwork at Revolution Gallery in a four person show in February 2021 – “Paradise Lost.” The gallery is looking forward to future exhibits with Matthew.
