EXQUISITE CORPSE – GUIDE FOR ARTISTS
Hi! Thank you again for participating in the Exquisite Corpse event at Revolution Gallery!
We are so excited to see what you draw with the other artists you will be grouped with. We are honored and looking forward to seeing the artwork that will be made!
Typically, these events were about spontaneity, but we figure being prepared for this is a good thing!
Please read –
GUIDELINES:
The drawing session begins at 7:30pm; please arrive at 6:45pm to get settled in and we can go over the teams and any questions you may have. Each artist will get a drink ticket at the bar so you can have a beer / wine / cocktail / zero proof (NA) drink before getting started.
We will have pizza available for artists, too.
We encourage artists to walk around and see what other artists are creating as you await your turn to draw, taking care to not observe the table you are drawing at so you may start within the spirit of the Exquisite Corpse game!
Each team of three will draw an Exquisite Corpse, so we will be drawing a head, torso, and lower body, with the first artist drawing the head. Friendly reminder – these do not have to be traditional human / animal figures —
Please see example from our Exquisite Corpse of Fat 2023 (artists Derek Hendrickson, Isabella Constantino, and Kelly Reed).
There will be six teams of three artists, and you will learn who you are drawing with when you arrive at the event, as well as the order you will be drawing (either first, second, or third).
Each artist will have 30 minutes to draw in their session, with the entire round of three artists drawing taking approximately 90 minutes.
Each team of three artists will be drawing on a piece of Stonehenge drawing paper (there is a smooth side and the other has a slight texture to it. The paper is approximately 39”h x 15”w – with each artist having approximately a drawing space of 13”h15”w. This piece will be vertical when viewed.
The gallery will provide the paper and the drawing tools like pencils, micron pens, erasers, charcoal, conte, etc. Drawing tools that make a black mark on the page, as we are keeping this composition as black and white. If there are tools that you use when creating black and white artwork and want to bring those to draw with, please do!
Traditionally, the paper is folded, so we will do so for this drawing event. However, as each section is completed by the artist, we will securely cover that section with another piece of paper to protect the artwork when the paper is folded for the next artist. This will make better sense when we demo this to you when you arrive to draw!
Friendly reminder, when you have completed your drawing section, you will leave approximately a half inch overlap from your section to the next artist’s section, so they may start their drawing at that point, maintaining the continuation from the previous drawing.
After the drawing round is completed, we will hang the finished pieces for guests to bid on – there will be a minimum bid to start along with a “buy it now” option; a percentage of the artwork sale will be donated to the Pride Center of WNY. Artists will be receiving a percentage of the sale of the artwork.
